Episode 122: Mental Labour – how we powerfully share the load in our relationships so our family can thrive (not survive) with Elyse McNeil

My guest today is psychologist Elise McNeil. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Elyse for almost 10 years. Elyse is just finishing her PhD on Mental Load. And she recently just became a Mama to her son Rex. I really wanted to put Elyse in the hot seat and ask her all about how we can powerfully share the load in our relationships so we can thrive as a family unit.

Here’s what we talk about in our conversation:

  • What is Mental Labour?
  • What she was noticing in her clinical practice that led her to do a PhD on Mental Labour
  • How is mental labour experienced by individuals (especially women/mothers) and within couple – what does it look like, or feel like?
  • How do we help our partners understand what’s valuable to us?
  • How do we work on relaxing some of these expectations or standards?
  • How do we improve sharing in our relationship?
  • What are some examples, skills and strategies to help our relationships not just survive, but thrive
  • Her work – Share to Thrive and her NEW course on Mental Labour which will be out soon!
